Advanced 2D Animation

This past quarter I took some great classes, my favorite being my Advanced 2D class. Here's a few projects from that class, in various stages of finish.

Minneapolis

Trying to push myself in directions I'm not quite comfortable with. It's all about growth right? Inspired by this.

Proof of Concept

This past quarter has been one of the most productive quarters I've ever had! I attended SIGGRAPH, I had my 9th level portfolio review, cut another demo reel, and was a part of two team projects which were both very successful.

Above is a clip from my favorite project, Cupcakes (working title). These past three months we've been hashing out story and character and we are finally ready to begin production. I can't wait!

Brain Computer Interfaces: Robot Puppet

Not much animation in this shot. Just a test at the moment.

Improvement

Progress? I think so. The bottom picture is one I did in 9th grade. I loved those colored pencils.

Lip Sync

My first time doing a lip sync. It was one of the most satisfying things I've ever animated. I look forward to doing more soon. :)

Storyboarding: Final

We were asked to create a fake, thirty-sec spot for the card company American Greetings with the theme of Mother's Day. The spot would be live-action and have a limited budget.

Storyboarding: The Wrong Guy

The pitch boards for my first Storyboarding assignment. The story is about a poor kid who gets picked up by a group of hit-men who mistake him for their target. Eventually, with the kid's help they manage to pick up the right guy and by the end of the story he gains some new friends. :)

Here's the final animatic.

A Proposal

I'll be drawing much more of this guy. He's the main character of my storyboard final and he offers a lot of great acting opportunities. I'm looking forward to animating him again soon!

A Bee in Love

Just a quick little animation of my bee character. I haven't done that much experimenting with him and I thought it would be fun to try and get the feel of his personality through more than just sketching.

Valentine's Day Swing

Swing dancing is so fun! I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a good time. :)

Sisters

So over winter break I was working on some artwork for my two younger sisters. The first one is Emily. She's a huge Harry Potter nut so I figured I throw her in some robes. It was also the first time I've seriously worked with Illustrator. I figured I needed some more experience in the program so I used this idea to figure it out. Woo vector images. The first sketch was done in Photoshop.

The there's my incredibly talented beast of a sister. I actually went through two drafts of this and chose the limited color pallet. I think it works in some places... and not so much in others. It was also my first time doing anything remotely comic-like.

Feel free to check out the first draft here if you're curious.

2010

It has been a rollercoaster year like none other. Amazing highs and lows. I'm thankful for all of it, even the mistakes. It's time to learn from them and move on. Here's to 2010!

Below is Glen Faught. He's an incredibly talented matte painter who just made the big move out to California to do some stereo compositing on some big movie or something... Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 1 maybe? Doubt anyone's heard of that. :) Check out his website here: http://www.glenfaught.com/

Just wanted to say good luck in Cali Glen! I'll miss you so much!

Winter blues setting in. Time to get down to some crafting and other drawing and animation projects.
